Can acupuncture make your blood pressure go up?

My friend is doing acupuncture for her back and they gave her some herbal meds to help her sleep but she also took a couple pain meds, prescribed by another doctor, BP went up to 195 over I’m not sure what. Any help greatly appreciated, thank you.

I have had acupuncture in the past, and it can make your blood pressure go up slightly. Not enough for it to be an actual problem unless there was an underlying health condition. It might just be the pain medication depending on whether or not they were opiates.

Your friend received acupuncture treatment, plus herbal medicine, plus prescription medication.

Most probably the herbal medicine, the prescription meds, or the combination of herbal medicine and prescription meds caused the increased blood pressure.

Your friend should discontinue the herbal medicine immediately and contact the Acupuncturist about this blood pressure spike. The Acupuncturist needs to know all medications and supplements your friend is currently taking to determine what potentiated the blood pressure.
